Yay! Here's the book I won in my school's annual Prize Distribution ceremony this evening - a book I've wanted to sample for a pretty long time! A Case Of Exploding Mangoes, written by Mohammed Hanif. What an intriguing title, right? I've never read any of Mohammed Hanif's books, shockingly. He's an amazingly talented Pakistani writer from what I've heard and his other book, Our Lady Of Alice Bhatti, is as highly rated as Exploding Mangoes.
Even though it's nothing Young Adult, I still can't wait to read it! :D
Pages: 364 pages
Literary awards: Man Booker Prize Nominee for Longlist (2008), Guardian First Book Award Nominee (2008), James Tait Black Memorial Prize Nominee for Fiction (2000), Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Book Overall (2009)
Back-cover synopsis
In August 1988, President Zia ul-Haq gets into the presidential plane, Pak One, and it explodes midway. Who has killed him? The army generals growing old waiting for their promotions? The CIA? The ISI? RAW? Or Ali Shigri, a junior officer at the military academy whose father, a whisky-swilling jihadi colonel, has been murdered by the army?
