Musing Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Should Be Reading, where we reflect on, or 'muse' over a bookish topic that's set each week.
This week's musing asks a fairly simple question:
What is the most recent book you purchased, or brought home from the local library? What made you pick it? Have you started reading it, right away, or will you wait for a bit?
There are actually two books I acquired most recently: the first two books in the Matched series by Allie Condie - Matched and Crossed.
Matched released November 2010, and Crossed followed in November 2011. The third book, Reached is expecting its release a couple of days later this month.
So - what made me pick these two books? Aside from the obvious element of the cover? Speaking of which, aren't the both of them fantastic? Like, really awesome? I love how the art depicts the girl trapped in the bubble, then how she starts breaking out of said bubble on the sequel's front cover. And the cover art of the third book shows her out of the bubble and walking away. If covers could give the story away, you have a brilliant example right there in the Matched series, folks.
Apart from judging the books by their covers, these were titles I'd wanted to read since the summer holidays. I can't say no to dystopia; mix that with sci-fi and I'll be jostling to be first in line to grab a copy. Maybe even physically harm whoever obstructs my path (OK, not really ). Plus, these two earned additional bonus points because they've been talked about quite a lot. Though Matched has mostly received 4-star ratings - not a five out of five. Even I'm not completely certain if I'll find it worth adding to my 'absolutely epic' bookshelf on Goodreads - the story may be a little bit on the cheesy side. Check out the blurb here and you'll understand why. But still - I can't judge the books before even reading them.
I'll probably get to read the two of them after my exams in December. These days I'm reading the Iron Knight at a snail's pace because of the workload from school. So the day I get over with exams, I'll finish the Iron Knight and Feed, then move on to the Mark Of Athena, and then maybe start with Matched.
What's the latest book you acquired, and why did you pick that? Share with me your thoughts on this week's Musing Monday! :)

Heyy :) I still haven't read this series either! I thought I was the only one! And I agree, the covers are amazing. By the way, I've just noticed on your sidebar you have Pinterest... But why don't you have any boards? :P Find my pinterest via my blog!

Hi again Ruby!
Great to hear from you :)! Hahaha, trust me, I thought I was the only one to have not read the series either! About Pinterest - you're right; I haven't been able to create boards and pin stuff because after creating my account, I just never got around to doing it. Thanks for pointing it out - I'll work on it real soon! :D
Found your Pinterest! Following your boards now! :D
